1.30 - 3.30 pm : Visible Mending - Freyalyn Close-Hainsworth

Location: Clarke Foley Centre Annex

Cost: £20.00

MendingMending
If you love something enough to mend it, it's worth showing that you have mended it beautifully. Never mind invisible mending - this is Visible Mending.

This short class will briefly cover what to do with a snapped or caught yarn in the middle of a garment, how to darn, and how to fill in holes or thin patches in knitwear with Swiss darning. We may not be able to do a whole mend in the class, but I'll make sure you know what to do with it when you get home. I will also demonstrate and sing the praises of the SpeedWeve - Lancashire's smallest loom! You will be able to buy a darning needle from me if necessary. I will also have a few darning mushrooms for sale.

If you book your class in advance, please bring a 4"/10cm knitted square, in stocking stitch, in a double-knit 100% wool yarn of your choice. Please also bring a small amount of a different coloured wool yarn, also double knit, for the repair. If you have a darning mushroom please bring that; if not, a smooth ball (tennis ball-sized) would be useful.

If you book for this class on the day of the fair, I will have a few knitted squares for you to use, but there will be a charge of £4 for each one. If you have a garment you would like to repair, please feel free to bring it in with you, and we can discuss the best way to repair it as part of the class, or afterwards if we run out of time.
